Fakespot alternatives: what is left after the shutdown

By TwelveTabs · Updated

Fakespot is gone, and nothing replaces it one for one. You can still check a product's reviews, but no tool we know of promises to tell you which Amazon reviews are fake. This page says what happened, what you can use now, and where each option stops.

What happened to Fakespot

Mozilla announced on May 22, 2025 that it would shut down Fakespot. The Fakespot feature inside Firefox, called Review Checker, ended on June 10, 2025. The Fakespot extensions, mobile apps and website stopped on July 1, 2025. Mozilla said it bought Fakespot in 2023, and that the idea "didn't fit a model we could sustain." What about ReviewMeta?

When we tried reviewmeta.com on October 11, 2026, it did not load a working page: it answered with an error ("403 forbidden"), both to a plain request and to a normal browser. We cannot tell you why, so we do not list it as an option. Check it yourself before you rely on it.

What you can use now

OptionWhat it gives youWhere it stops
Check the reviews yourselfFull control. See how to spot fake Amazon reviews. It takes time, and a good fake can look real.
An AI shopping assistantReads many listings and reviews at once. See the comparison of AI shopping assistants. It is a shortcut to a shortlist, not a lie detector.
TwelveTabsA free AI shopping agent for Amazon: it drops sponsored results, reads the reviews of the finalists and names one best match with the reason. It does not grade each review as real or fake. An AI model writes the answer and can misread a listing.

Why no tool can promise it

A review checker can only see what is on the page: the words, the dates, the star pattern. A careful seller can copy a real review's style. Treat any score as a hint, never proof. The safest habit is to read the 1, 2 and 3 star reviews of the product you are about to buy.
