The top picks

Our top pick for most homes is the Keurig K-Classic Single Serve K-Cup Pod Coffee Maker. It won the main TwelveTabs search we ran for this guide, “best coffee maker”, out of 61 Amazon listings. It makes one cup at a time from a K-Cup pod, in three cup sizes, and it suits anyone who wants a fresh cup with no measuring and almost no cleanup.

Want a full pot as well as a single cup? The Hamilton Beach 2-Way Brewer won our drip coffee maker search and does both. The Ninja CM401 adds iced coffee and a milk frother, the Cuisinart DCC-3200 makes a 14-cup pot for a big household, and the Cosori Pour Over is a simple glass brewer for people who like to make coffee by hand. For hot water for tea, see our tea kettle guide. To keep your coffee hot on the go, see our coffee thermos guide.

  • Pros Standard K-Cup pods, nothing to measure
  • Cons One cup at a time, no carafe

Prices and ratings as of September 29, 2026.

Pros and cons

Why it made the list

  • It won our main search, “best coffee maker”, from 61 listings.
  • It takes standard K-Cup pods, so there is nothing to measure and no filter to throw out.
  • It brews three cup sizes and has a 48-ounce water tank that comes off for filling.

Drawbacks

  • It makes one cup at a time. It has no carafe, so it is slow if you need coffee for a group.
  • It works with pods, not loose coffee, unless you add a reusable pod filter.

Watch for this: Keurig’s K-Elite showed up in the same search as a runner-up. It is a different, more feature-packed machine from the same brand, not the same one in another color. Check the model name on the listing before you buy.

Skip it if you want to brew a full pot, or you would rather not buy pods.

  • Cons No bean grinder

Prices and ratings as of September 29, 2026.

Pros and cons

Why it made the list

  • It has several brew styles, including an iced coffee setting.
  • It has a fold-away milk frother built into the side.
  • It brews into a 10-cup glass carafe, and it was a runner-up in our grinder search.

Drawbacks

  • It has no bean grinder, which is why it lost that search. You need ground coffee.
  • The carafe holds 10 cups, fewer than our 12- and 14-cup picks.

Skip it if you only drink plain hot coffee and do not need the frother.

  • Pros 14-cup glass carafe
  • Cons Ground coffee only

Prices and ratings as of September 29, 2026.

Pros and cons

Why it made the list

  • Its glass carafe holds 14 cups, the most of any pick here.
  • It is programmable, and you can set the heater plate to keep the coffee at the warmth you like.
  • It was a runner-up in our grinder search.

Drawbacks

  • It takes ground coffee only. It has no grinder, which is why it lost that search.
  • A big carafe on a hot plate is a lot of coffee to keep warm if you only drink a cup or two.

Watch for this: Cuisinart sells many 12- and 14-cup machines with similar names. This one is the DCC-3200, with a glass carafe.

Skip it if you live alone or drink one cup a day.

Top AlternativeBest for making coffee by hand
Cosori Pour Over Coffee Maker

Cosori Pour Over Coffee Maker

Best for: Making coffee by hand, with no paper filters

  • $29.99

Pros and cons

  • It is a glass pour-over brewer that makes up to eight cups, with a double-layer stainless steel filter, so there are no paper filters to buy.
  • It has no plastic parts and nothing to plug in.

Drawbacks

  • You have to boil the water and pour it yourself. There is no timer and nothing automatic.
  • It makes a smaller batch than the drip machines here.

How to choose a coffee maker for home

Start with how many cups you drink and how much work you want to do each morning. Then look at these five things.

  • Pods, grounds or whole beans. A pod machine is the least work: one pod, one cup, then throw it away. A drip machine uses ground coffee and a filter. A grind-and-brew machine starts from whole beans. The National Coffee Association says grinding whole beans right before you brew gives you the freshest coffee.
  • One cup or a full pot. Pod machines brew one cup at a time. Drip machines brew a pot, usually 10 to 14 cups. Some, like our Hamilton Beach pick, do both.
  • How strong you like it. For drip coffee, the National Coffee Association’s “Golden Ratio” is 1 to 2 tablespoons of ground coffee for every 6 ounces of water, with about 5 minutes of contact between the coffee and the water. A machine with a strength setting, or one that takes your own grounds, lets you change that.
  • The grinder, if it has one. The same source explains that a burr grinder gives a more even grind than a blade grinder, which spins like a food processor and is harder to control. None of our picks has a grinder.
  • Cleaning. Wash the pot or carafe after each use, wipe the hot plate once it has cooled, and descale the machine the way its maker tells you to. Pods and a reusable filter both cut down on the mess.

What we left out, and why

Our three searches returned 181 listings. TwelveTabs shortlisted 30 of them, read the listing pages of 10 finalists, and named a winner and runners-up in each search. We picked six, dropped one on September 29 (below), and left out these:

  • The Keurig K-Elite, a runner-up in our main search. It is a second single-serve pod machine from the same brand, so it overlapped with the K-Classic.
  • The Bodum Pour Over Coffee Maker, a runner-up in our drip search. It is another glass pour-over brewer with a reusable filter, so it overlapped with the Cosori.
  • The Cuisinart Automatic Grind & Brew 12-Cup, the winner of our grinder search on September 25, 2026. When we re-read its page on September 29, Amazon showed only used offers and no new one, so we dropped it.
  • The Gevi 10-Cup Grind-And-Brew, a burr-grinder machine from the same shortlist that we considered as its replacement. Its Amazon page mixes in feedback about other products, such as toasting bread and bagels, so its rating and review count cannot be trusted and we did not pick it.
  • The Ninja Fresh Brew 12-Cup Coffee Maker, a runner-up in our grinder search. It is a plain 12-cup drip machine with no grinder, so it overlapped with the Hamilton Beach and the Cuisinart DCC-3200.

Wirecutter’s top pick, the OXO Brew 9-Cup Coffee Maker, is in the comparison table so you can see it next to ours. It did not come up in any of our three searches’ shortlists.

How we researched

On September 25, 2026 we ran three live TwelveTabs searches of Amazon: “best coffee maker”, “best drip coffee maker” and “coffee maker with built-in grinder”. Together they returned 181 listings. TwelveTabs shortlisted 10 from each search, read the listing pages of 10 finalists and named a winner and runners-up in each. We kept six that each suit a different need, and left out near-duplicates. On September 29, 2026 we re-read each pick's Amazon page for its price, rating, review count and badges, and checked the picks against a fresh Amazon search page. The winner of the grinder search, the Cuisinart Automatic Grind & Brew, showed no new offer that day, so it was dropped, and the guide now has five picks. AI wrote this guide from that research.

Listings change: we read them on September 25, 2026, and a model, seller or stock may differ today.

Prices, ratings and review counts come from Amazon and were read on September 29, 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Is a pod coffee maker or a drip coffee maker better?

It depends on how you drink coffee. A pod machine like the Keurig K-Classic is the least work for one cup at a time. A drip machine is better for a pot, and it lets you choose your own coffee and how much of it to use.

How much coffee goes in a drip coffee maker?

The National Coffee Association suggests 1 to 2 tablespoons of ground coffee for every 6 ounces of water, then adjusting to taste. It recommends a medium grind for drip coffee.

Is a coffee maker with a grinder worth it?

If you buy whole beans, it saves you a separate grinder and a step each morning. Grinding right before brewing keeps the coffee freshest. None of our current picks has a grinder: we dropped our grind-and-brew pick after its listing changed. A burr grinder grinds more evenly than a blade, and a separate one next to a plain drip machine is the simple route.

How do you clean a coffee maker?

Wash the carafe after each use, wipe the hot plate once it is cool, and descale the machine as its maker says. The National Coffee Association notes that some machines can be descaled with white vinegar and water, followed by a few cycles of plain water.

Want only a K-Cup brewer? Our K-Cup coffee makers guide compares six Keurig machines by size, strength control and extras.

How did TwelveTabs choose these coffee makers?

TwelveTabs ranked the Amazon listings for “best coffee maker”, “best drip coffee maker” and “coffee maker with built-in grinder”, read the pages of 10 finalists and named a winner in each search. From those 181 listings, we kept the five that each suit a different need, as of September 25, 2026. We checked the advice against National Coffee Association (aboutcoffee.org). TwelveTabs, our AI shopping agent, compared the Amazon listings, and AI wrote this guide from that research. To see what it picks today, run the search yourself with the button on this page.
