It won our main search: a lightweight men's court shoe designed and labeled for pickleball, built for fast side-to-side movement. - **Women, especially on indoor courts:** ASICS Women's Upcourt 6 Court Shoes. It won our women's search: a light women's court shoe with supportive midfoot overlays and stability for quick moves. ASICS sells it as a volleyball shoe. - **Wide and extra-wide feet:** FitVille Men's Wide Pickleball Shoes. It won our wide-feet search: a men's pickleball and all-court shoe cut wide, in wide and extra-wide sizes, with arch support. - **Women who want more cushioning:** ASICS Women's Gel-Dedicate 8 Tennis Shoes. A runner-up in our women's search: a supportive women's tennis shoe with gel cushioning, sold for pickleball and tennis, with more wide options. Our top pick for most men is the **[K-Swiss Ultrashot Light Pickleball Court Shoe](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-pickleball-shoes/#pick-1)**. It won the main TwelveTabs search we ran for this guide, "best pickleball shoes", out of 54 Amazon listings. It is a light court shoe designed and labeled for pickleball, built for quick side-to-side moves, and K-Swiss sells a women's version too. For women, the **[ASICS Upcourt 6](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-pickleball-shoes/#pick-2)** won our women's search, and it suits indoor courts best. For wide feet, the **[FitVille Wide Pickleball Shoe](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-pickleball-shoes/#pick-3)** won our wide-feet search. And for more cushioning, the **[ASICS Gel-Dedicate 8](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-pickleball-shoes/#pick-4)** is a supportive women's tennis shoe that ASICS sells for pickleball too. ## How to choose pickleball shoes Pickleball is a game of short sprints, quick stops and side-to-side steps. PickleRage, a pickleball club and shop, explains what that means for your shoes. - **Court shoes, not running shoes.** PickleRage says running shoes are built for moving straight ahead and lack the side support pickleball needs, so your foot is more likely to roll on a quick lateral move. Pickleball, tennis and other court shoes are made for it. - **Indoor or outdoor court.** Indoor court shoes have softer, non-marking rubber soles for grip on gym floors. Outdoor shoes have tougher treads, more durable outsoles and reinforced toe guards for rough surfaces. - **Support and traction.** Look for a stable base, support around the midfoot and ankle, and a tread pattern made for courts. - **Cushioning.** Long games are hard on your feet. A cushioned midsole softens the impact, at the cost of a little weight. - **Fit.** Try your usual size first, and look for wide sizes if your feet need them. Many brands sell men's and women's versions of the same shoe under separate listings. ## Our picks in detail ### 1. K-Swiss Men's Ultrashot Light Pickleball Court Shoes: best overall **Why it made the list** - It won our main search, "best pickleball shoes", from 54 listings. - It is designed and labeled for pickleball court play. - It is a lightweight shoe built for fast lateral movement. **Drawbacks** - It has no wide sizes. Our wide-feet search ranked it lower for that reason. - This listing is for men. K-Swiss sells a women's Ultrashot Light under a separate listing. **Skip it if** you have wide feet, or you want a heavily cushioned shoe. ### 2. ASICS Women's Upcourt 6 Court Shoes: best for women **Why it made the list** - It won our search for "best pickleball shoes for women", from 50 listings, and was a runner-up in our main search. - It is a light women's court shoe with supportive midfoot overlays. - It is built for indoor court traction and quick changes of direction. **Drawbacks** - ASICS sells it as a volleyball shoe, not a pickleball shoe. - It is made for indoor courts. PickleRage notes that indoor soles are softer, so they wear faster on rough outdoor courts. **Skip it if** you play mostly on outdoor courts. ### 3. FitVille Men's Wide Pickleball Shoes: best for wide feet **Why it made the list** - It won our search for "best pickleball shoes for wide feet", from 55 listings. - It is designed as a wide-fitting pickleball and all-court shoe. - It comes in wide and extra-wide sizes and has arch support. **Drawbacks** - This listing is men's sizing. - A roomier fit can feel loose on a narrow foot. **Skip it if** your feet are standard or narrow. ### 4. ASICS Women's Gel-Dedicate 8 Tennis Shoes: best for cushioning **Why it made the list** - It was a runner-up in our women's search. - It has gel cushioning and a supportive build, and ASICS sells it for tennis and pickleball. - It comes in more wide options than our women's top pick. **Drawbacks** - It is a tennis shoe, not one made only for pickleball. - Its extra cushioning makes it heavier than a light court shoe. **Skip it if** you want the lightest, quickest shoe. ## What we left out, and why Our three searches returned 159 listings. TwelveTabs shortlisted 30 of them, read the listing pages of 10 finalists, and named a winner and runners-up in each search. We kept four and left out these: - **The K-Swiss Women's Ultrashot Light**, a runner-up in our wide-feet search. It is the women's version of our top pick, so we named it there instead. - **The adidas Gamecourt 2, men's and women's**, runners-up in our main and women's searches. They are tennis shoes and overlapped with our ASICS picks. - **The ASICS Men's Upcourt 6**, a runner-up in our main search. It is the men's version of our women's pick, a volleyball shoe. Wirecutter has no pickleball shoe guide that we could find, so there is no Wirecutter pick in the table for this guide. ## Questions people ask ### Can you wear running shoes for pickleball? It is not a good idea. PickleRage explains that running shoes are made for moving forward, and they lack the side support pickleball's quick lateral moves need, so your foot is more likely to roll. ### Are tennis shoes good for pickleball? Yes, usually. Tennis shoes are court shoes, with the grip and side support pickleball needs. Two of our picks are court shoes from other sports, and we say so in each one. ### What is the difference between indoor and outdoor pickleball shoes? Indoor shoes have softer, non-marking soles that grip gym floors. Outdoor shoes have tougher treads, more durable soles and reinforced toes for rough courts, according to PickleRage.
