It won our main search: a three-seat wicker sofa on a steel frame, with deep seats, a high back, anti-slip cushions and a furniture cover. - **A modular sectional:** Rattaner 6-Piece Wicker Patio Sectional. It won our modular outdoor sectional search: six all-weather wicker pieces you can rearrange, with a glass table, non-slip cushions and a waterproof cover. - **Smaller porches and decks:** Devoko 5-Piece Outdoor Sectional. A runner-up in our main and sectional searches: a five-piece modular sectional with a table, in a compact footprint for smaller porches and decks. - **Storage and extra seats:** KROFEM 8-Piece Modular Conversation Set. A runner-up in our sectional search: an eight-piece modular conversation set with more seating sections than the winner and built-in storage boxes. - **A balcony or small patio:** Orange-Casual Wicker Loveseat with Storage Ottoman. A runner-up in our outdoor loveseat search: a two-piece wicker loveseat with soft cushions and an ottoman that tucks away and stores things. Our top pick for most patios is the **[Rattaner 3-Seat Patio Wicker Sofa](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-outdoor-sofas/#pick-1)**. It won the main TwelveTabs search we ran for this guide, "best outdoor sofa", out of 55 Amazon listings. It is a three-seat wicker sofa on a steel frame, with deep seats, a high back and anti-slip cushions, and it comes with a furniture cover. It suits anyone who wants one proper sofa on a deck or patio. Want a layout you can change? The **[Rattaner 6-Piece Wicker Patio Sectional](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-outdoor-sofas/#pick-2)** won our modular outdoor sectional search. For a smaller porch or deck, the **[Devoko 5-Piece Sectional](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-outdoor-sofas/#pick-3)** has a compact footprint. For more seats and somewhere to store cushions, the **[KROFEM 8-Piece Modular Conversation Set](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-outdoor-sofas/#pick-4)** has built-in storage boxes. And for a balcony, the **[Orange-Casual Wicker Loveseat](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-outdoor-sofas/#pick-5)** comes with a storage ottoman. Furnishing indoors instead? See our [sectional sofa guide](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-sectional-sofas/). ## How to choose an outdoor sofa Outdoor sofas live in sun, rain and pollen. What matters is the size, the frame, the cushions and how you will protect it. - **Measure first.** A sectional's pieces spread out. Measure your space and leave room to walk around. Our picks run from a two-seat loveseat to an eight-piece set. - **Sofa or sectional.** A sofa is one piece. A modular sectional splits into chairs, corners and ottomans that you can rearrange. Piece counts on listings often include the table and ottomans, so count the seats, not the pieces. - **Frame and weave.** All five of our picks are wicker. Our top pick's listing names a steel frame, and several listings name PE rattan, a plastic weave made for outdoor use. - **Cushions that dry.** Architectural Digest praises cushions that wick away surface moisture and dry quickly in the sun after heavy rain. Look for removable covers you can wash. - **A cover.** Architectural Digest also notes that a protective cover helps a sofa keep its condition for years. Our top pick and our sectional pick both come with one. ## Our picks in detail ### 1. Rattaner 3-Seat Patio Wicker Sofa: best overall **Why it made the list** - It won our main search, "best outdoor sofa", from 55 listings. - Its listing describes a three-seat wicker sofa on a steel frame, with deep seats and a high back. - It comes with a protective furniture cover and anti-slip cushions. **Drawbacks** - It seats three and comes with no table. - Like any wicker set, it needs its cover on in bad weather (our inference, in line with Architectural Digest's advice on covers). **Skip it if** you want to rearrange your seating. ### 2. Rattaner 6-Piece Wicker Patio Sectional: best modular sectional **Why it made the list** - It won our search for "modular outdoor sectional", from 61 listings. - Its listing describes six all-weather wicker pieces you can arrange in different ways. - It comes with a glass coffee table, non-slip cushions and a waterproof cover. **Drawbacks** - Six pieces need much more floor space than a sofa. - It is from the same maker as our top pick, so the look and weave are similar. **Skip it if** your patio is narrow. ### 3. Devoko 5-Piece Outdoor Sectional: best for smaller porches and decks **Why it made the list** - It was a runner-up in both our main search and our sectional search. - Its listing describes a five-piece modular sectional with a table. - Our sectional search picked out its compact footprint as a fit for smaller porches and decks. **Drawbacks** - Our sectional search found thinner cushions than the [Rattaner sectional](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-outdoor-sofas/#pick-2). - The five pieces include the table, so it seats fewer people than the count suggests. **Skip it if** you want the deepest, thickest seats. ### 4. KROFEM 8-Piece Modular Conversation Set: best for storage and extra seats **Why it made the list** - It was a runner-up in our sectional search. - It has more seating sections than the search's winner. - It has built-in storage boxes, handy for cushions and covers. **Drawbacks** - Eight pieces need the most floor space of our picks (our inference from the piece count). - Its listing title says little beyond the piece count, so read the dimensions closely. **Skip it if** you have a small patio. ### 5. Orange-Casual Wicker Loveseat with Storage Ottoman: best for a balcony **Why it made the list** - It was a runner-up in our "outdoor loveseat" search, from 116 listings. - Its listing describes a two-piece wicker loveseat set with soft cushions. - The ottoman tucks away under the seat and stores small things. **Drawbacks** - It seats two. - Our loveseat search noted its compact profile, which is the point on a balcony but tight for a family. **Watch for this:** our loveseat search also returned folding camping loveseats. They are for campsites, not patios, so we left them out. **Skip it if** you want seats for four or more. ## What we left out, and why Our three searches returned 232 listings. TwelveTabs shortlisted 30 of them, read the listing pages of 11 finalists, and named a winner and runners-up in each search. We kept five and left out: - **WAROOM 3-Seat Outdoor Sofa**, a runner-up in our main search. It is a second three-seat wicker sofa, the same need as our top pick. - **Vongrasig 5-Piece and Qsun 7-Piece sectionals**, runners-up in our sectional search. They repeat the need our picks 2 and 3 cover. - **Two folding camping loveseats**, the winner and a runner-up of our loveseat search. They are camping chairs, not patio furniture. Wirecutter lists eight top picks for outdoor seating, led by the Neighbor Terra Loveseat, with others from Outer, Room & Board and Blu Dot. They are sold by their makers, and none came up in our three Amazon searches, so none is in the comparison table. ## Questions people ask ### What is the best outdoor sofa? The [Rattaner 3-Seat Patio Wicker Sofa](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-outdoor-sofas/#pick-1) won our main search. For a layout you can change, the [Rattaner 6-Piece Sectional](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-outdoor-sofas/#pick-2) won our modular outdoor sectional search. ### Is a modular outdoor sectional better than a sofa? It is more flexible. You can split it into chairs or push it into an L. It also takes more space, and its piece count usually includes a table and ottomans. ### How do you protect an outdoor sofa from rain? Use a cover. Architectural Digest notes that a protective cover helps a sofa keep its condition, and our top pick and sectional pick both come with one. Cushions that dry fast help too. ### What size outdoor sofa fits a balcony? A loveseat. Our pick 5 seats two and its ottoman tucks away.
