Prices and ratings change often: see the guide for today's. ## The top picks - **A contour pillow with a removable middle layer for two heights:** UTTU Adjustable Memory Foam Cervical Pillow. A memory foam contour pillow listed at 5.2 inches high, or 4.5 inches low once the middle layer is taken out, made of UTTU Dynamic Foam with a breathable cover. - **A medium-firm contour pillow with a three-layer design:** Royal Therapy Memory Foam Contour Pillow. A medium-firmness memory foam contour pillow with a three-layer design, made to cradle the curve of the neck for side and back sleepers, per its listing. - **A hollow-design contour pillow with a cooling pillowcase:** Cozyplayer Hollow Contour Memory Foam Pillow. A memory foam contour pillow with a hollow concave design and six contour zones, an adjustable sleeping height and a cooling pillowcase. - **A soft single-piece Tempur foam pillow with a washable cover:** Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud Pillow. A single-piece Tempur-Material pillow with an extra-soft feel and a removable, machine-washable polyester knit cover, in a standard size. Our top pick is the **[UTTU Adjustable Memory Foam Cervical Pillow](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-memory-foam-pillows/#pick-1)**, a contour pillow with a removable layer for two heights. We read 97 Amazon listings for memory foam pillows, compared 11 and kept four. Wirecutter's top pick, the Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Adapt ProHi Pillow, is not on Amazon, so it is named here but not linked. The [Royal Therapy Memory Foam Contour Pillow](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-memory-foam-pillows/#pick-2) is a three-layer contour, and the [Cozyplayer Hollow Contour Memory Foam Pillow](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-memory-foam-pillows/#pick-3) adds a hollow center and a cooling case. For a low, soft pillow in one piece, the [Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud Pillow](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-memory-foam-pillows/#pick-4). ## How to choose a memory foam pillow The Spruce, Sleep Foundation and Wirecutter set out the main choices. - **Solid or shredded foam.** The Spruce says memory foam pillows come as one solid piece or as shredded foam. Solid foam keeps its shape much longer but is firmer, while shredded foam is usually adjustable and more breathable, and needs fluffing as it deflates. The [Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud Pillow](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-memory-foam-pillows/#pick-4) is solid. Wirecutter picks a single-piece pillow as its top pick and an adjustable shredded one as its other top pick. The shredded pillows we read are already picks in our [cooling pillows guide](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-cooling-pillows/) and [side sleeper pillow guide](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-pillows-for-side-sleepers/). - **Loft and sleeping position.** The Spruce says loft matters most: back sleepers do well with a medium loft, side sleepers with a high one, and stomach sleepers with a flatter pillow. Sleep Foundation adds that your sleeping position and body weight change how a pillow feels. - **Adjustability.** Sleep Foundation says adjustable pillows have a learning curve and can take several nights to dial in. The [UTTU Adjustable Memory Foam Cervical Pillow](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-memory-foam-pillows/#pick-1) offers two heights by removing a layer. - **Cooling.** Sleep Foundation tests temperature control, and the Spruce says shredded foam is more breathable than solid foam. Ventilation holes, gel foam and cooling covers, as on the [Cozyplayer Hollow Contour Memory Foam Pillow](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-memory-foam-pillows/#pick-3), are the listed ways to run cooler. - **Odor and cleaning.** Sleep Foundation looks at odor potential and ease of cleaning. Several listings here have mixed or negative odor ratings in Amazon's summaries, so air a new pillow out, and check whether the cover can go in the washing machine, as on the [Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud Pillow](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-memory-foam-pillows/#pick-4). ## Our picks in detail ### 1. UTTU Adjustable Memory Foam Cervical Pillow: best contour pillow with a removable layer **Why it made the list** - Its listing gives two profiles, a 5.2 inch high contour and a 4.5 inch low one, by taking out the middle layer. - The foam is a branded UTTU Dynamic Foam that the listing says conforms to the natural curve of the neck and head. - The listing says the foam never becomes hard in cold weather, and the cover is breathable. - The listing calls it a side sleeper pillow, and The Spruce says side sleepers benefit from a higher loft. **Drawbacks** - Amazon's own summary of its reviews lists odor as mixed, with a terrible smell mentioned by some. - A contour is a set shape, so it suits sleepers who like that profile and not those who prefer a flat pillow (an inference). **Watch for this:** The listing is sold in more than one size, and the page we read is the Queen size. **Skip it if** you move around in the night or want a flat pillow. The [Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud Pillow](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-memory-foam-pillows/#pick-4) is a low, soft single piece. ### 2. Royal Therapy Memory Foam Contour Pillow: best three-layer contour pillow **Why it made the list** - Its listing calls it a medium-firmness contour pillow with a shaped height and density. - The listing describes side and back sleeper support from an ergonomic contoured design, with a three-layer construction. - It is made to cradle the natural curve of the neck, per its listing. - Amazon's own summary of its reviews lists adjustability, with two height levels, among its positives. **Drawbacks** - The listing text we read does not name the foam type or a certification. - A critical review says the shape did not suit them and made it hard to line up the head. **Watch for this:** Royal Therapy also sells an adjustable shredded pillow, a separate listing with its own review total. This is the contour. **Skip it if** you want a shape with two heights. The [UTTU Adjustable Memory Foam Cervical Pillow](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-memory-foam-pillows/#pick-1) has a removable layer. ### 3. Cozyplayer Hollow Contour Memory Foam Pillow: best hollow contour pillow with a cooling case **Why it made the list** - Its listing describes a hollow concave design that combines a traditional bed pillow with a contour shape, with six contour zones. - The listing names premium memory foam and a Q-Max 0.4 cooling pillowcase. - The listing says the sleeping height is customizable, and it suits side and back sleepers. **Drawbacks** - A critical review says there is no layer to remove to adjust the height, so check what the pillow you receive includes. - The listing leads with health promises. We do not repeat them, so judge it on the shape and the materials. **Watch for this:** The listing text we read says the height is customizable, but we could not see how. Check the page for the adjustment method before you order. **Skip it if** you want the simplest shape. The [Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud Pillow](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-memory-foam-pillows/#pick-4) is a single flat piece. ### 4. Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud Pillow: best soft single-piece foam pillow **Why it made the list** - Its listing describes a single piece of Tempur-Material in an extra-soft feel. - The cover is a polyester knit that is removable and machine washable, and the listing calls it hypoallergenic. - It is a standard-size pillow, per its title. - The Spruce says solid foam keeps its shape much longer than shredded foam, but is firmer. **Drawbacks** - Amazon's own summary of its reviews lists support and value for money as mixed, and notes the pillow is not very thick and goes flat. - A critical review says the slick cover will not hold a pillowcase in place. **Watch for this:** This listing is the standard size in an extra-soft feel, so it suits sleepers who want a low, soft pillow. **Skip it if** you want to change the height. The [UTTU Adjustable Memory Foam Cervical Pillow](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-memory-foam-pillows/#pick-1) has two heights. ## What we left out, and why We read 124 result cards from two pages of "memory foam pillow". 27 were sponsored, and we skipped them. From the 97 organic cards we chose 10 contenders by review count, then added one Wirecutter pick that Amazon sells. We read the Amazon page of each and kept four. We left out: - **WEEKENDER Cooling Gel Memory Foam Pillow.** The same pillow, in another size, as the Weekender pick in our [cooling pillows guide](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-cooling-pillows/). It is also Wirecutter's budget pick. - **QUTOOL Cooling Shredded Memory Foam Pillow.** The same pillow, in another size or pack, as the QUTOOL pick in our [cooling pillows guide](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-cooling-pillows/) and [side sleeper pillow guide](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-pillows-for-side-sleepers/). - **Coop Home Goods Original Adjustable Pillow.** Wirecutter's other top pick, but it is already a pick in our [side sleeper pillow guide](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-pillows-for-side-sleepers/). - **DreamyBlue Signature Adjustable Shredded Memory Foam Pillow.** Already a pick in our [side sleeper pillow guide](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-pillows-for-side-sleepers/). - **SUPA MODERN Cooling Pillow.** Already a pick in our [cooling pillow guide](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-cooling-pillows/). - **Cervical Pillow with a hollow design (Osteo).** A second hollow contour pillow next to the Cozyplayer. - **Derila Ergo Cervical Neck Pillow.** A fourth contour pillow, and Amazon's summary lists its functionality and value for money as mixed. Wirecutter's top pick, the Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Adapt ProHi Pillow, is not on Amazon: its page links only Walmart and Wayfair, so it is named here and has no table row. Its runner-up from Brooklyn Bedding and its Xtreme Comforts budget pick did not show as Amazon results we could match. ## Questions people ask ### What is the best memory foam pillow? For a shaped pillow with two heights, the [UTTU Adjustable Memory Foam Cervical Pillow](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-memory-foam-pillows/#pick-1) has a removable layer. For a low, soft pillow in one piece, the [Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud Pillow](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-memory-foam-pillows/#pick-4) is solid Tempur foam. ### Is solid or shredded memory foam better? The Spruce says both are supportive and it comes down to preference. Solid foam keeps its shape longer but is firmer, and shredded foam is adjustable and more breathable but can deflate and need fluffing. If you would rather have a firm natural fill with no foam, see our [guide to buckwheat pillows](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-buckwheat-pillows/). ### Do memory foam pillows have a smell? Sleep Foundation lists odor potential among the things it checks, and Amazon's own summaries list odor as mixed for the [UTTU Adjustable Memory Foam Cervical Pillow](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-memory-foam-pillows/#pick-1). Follow the label, and let a new pillow air out. ### How did TwelveTabs choose these pillows? TwelveTabs read the first two pages of Amazon results for "memory foam pillow", set aside sponsored repeats, travel and neck-roll shapes, and pillows already in our other guides, and read the pages of 11 contenders, including a Wirecutter pick. We kept four that cover different shapes and checked the advice against The Spruce, Sleep Foundation and Wirecutter. AI wrote this guide from that research. To see what TwelveTabs picks today, run the search yourself with the button on this page. ## How we researched On October 2, 2026 we read 97 organic Amazon listings for memory foam pillows across two pages of results. AI compared them, set aside sponsored repeats and pillows already in other TwelveTabs guides, read the pages of 11 contenders and chose four bed pillows in different shapes: three contour pillows and a soft single-piece pillow. AI wrote this guide from that research. Listings change: we read them on October 2, 2026, and a size, color or seller may differ today. Pillows are sold in several sizes and pack counts, and a price and figures are for the version on the page when we read it. Features are the listing text as we read it, which the collector cut to about 200 characters per bullet. ### Sources - [The Spruce: The Best Memory-Foam Pillows](https://www.thespruce.com/best-memory-foam-pillows-4159244) - [Sleep Foundation: The Best Pillows](https://www.sleepfoundation.org/best-pillows) - [Wirecutter: The Best Memory Foam Pillows](https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-memory-foam-pillows/)
