The ceramic mug is listed as microwave safe. - **A small thank-you to hang each year:** HEXMOZ Christmas Teacher Ornament. A hanging ceramic keepsake ornament made as a teacher thank-you. A runner-up in our Christmas search. Our top pick for most teachers is the **[BEAWART Teacher Sticky Notes Set](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-gifts-for-teachers/#pick-1)**. It won the main TwelveTabs search we ran for this guide, "best gift for a teacher", out of 70 Amazon listings. It is a 440-piece set of classroom-themed sticky note pads, a small, practical gift a teacher will use up rather than find a shelf for. Want something even more useful? The **[Teacher Self-Inking Stamp Set](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-gifts-for-teachers/#pick-2)** won our search for useful gifts for teachers. For a keepsake, the **["Funny Things My Students Said" Notebook](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-gifts-for-teachers/#pick-3)** gives a teacher a place to write down the best lines of the year. At Christmas, the boxed **[Best Teacher Mug Gift Set](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-gifts-for-teachers/#pick-4)** won our holiday search, and the **HEXMOZ ceramic ornament** is a small thank-you they can hang every year. ## How to choose a gift for a teacher Teachers get a lot of gifts, and many of them look alike. One teacher who surveyed her fellow teachers for the blog Learning Here N There found clear favorites and clear misses. These five points come from that list. - **Something for the classroom.** A nice pen, a fun timer, whiteboard markers or notepads came up among the most-loved gifts. Teachers use them every day. - **A handwritten note.** Notes and cards from a student were among the favorites, and they cost nothing. Add one to whatever you give. - **Watch for allergies.** Lotion, candles and candy were on the "worst" list, mostly because of allergies. Food and scents are a gamble. - **Skip more stuff to display.** Home decor, like picture frames, also made the "worst" list. Something useful tends to go further than something to find room for. - **Think twice about mugs.** Mugs are up for debate. A teacher who has taught for years may already own plenty. ## Our picks in detail ### 1. BEAWART Teacher Sticky Notes Set: best overall **Why it made the list** - It won our main search, "best gift for a teacher", from 70 listings. - It is a set of sticky note pads in several formats, 440 notes in all. - The pads are themed for classroom note-taking and grading. **Drawbacks** - It is a small gift. Pair it with a card if you want it to feel more personal. - Sticky notes get used up, so it will not last as a keepsake. **Skip it if** you want a gift the teacher keeps for years. ### 2. Teacher Self-Inking Stamp Set: best useful gift **Why it made the list** - It won our search for "useful gift for teachers", from 61 listings. - It is a set of eight self-inking stamps for grading homework and classwork. - The set includes a parent signature stamp as well as grading stamps. **Drawbacks** - Self-inking stamps run dry over time and need re-inking. - Stamps suit a teacher who grades paper. A teacher who grades online will use them less. **Watch for this:** several near-identical eight-piece teacher stamp sets came up in the same search, from different sellers. Check the stamp messages in the listing photos before you buy. **Skip it if** the teacher mostly grades on a computer. ### 3. Afterprints "Funny Things My Students Said" Notebook: best keepsake **Why it made the list** - It was a runner-up in our main search. - It is a faux leather journal made for teachers to write down funny things their students say. - It builds into a memory of the school year. **Drawbacks** - It is only as good as the teacher's habit of writing in it. - Faux leather is not real leather. **Skip it if** you want something the teacher will use in lessons. ### 4. Best Teacher Mug Gift Set: best boxed Christmas gift **Why it made the list** - It won our search for "christmas gift for teacher from student", from 67 listings. - It is a five-piece set: a mug, a lid, a spoon and a card, in a gift box with a cushioned lining. - The ceramic mug is listed as microwave safe. **Drawbacks** - It is a mug. Teachers are split on mugs, and a long-serving teacher may have several already. - A boxed set takes more wrapping than a flat gift. **Skip it if** the teacher has been teaching for years; choose something for the classroom instead. ### 5. HEXMOZ Christmas Teacher Ornament: best small thank-you **Why it made the list** - It was a runner-up in our Christmas search. - It is a hanging ceramic keepsake ornament made as a teacher thank-you. - Handmade Christmas ornaments were among the gifts teachers said they still loved years later. This one is bought, so add a note from the student. **Drawbacks** - It is a single ornament, not a full set like the boxed mug. - It suits a teacher who celebrates Christmas. **Skip it if** you are not sure the teacher celebrates Christmas. ## What we left out, and why Our three searches returned 198 listings. TwelveTabs shortlisted 30 of them, read the listing pages of 9 finalists, and named a winner and two runners-up in each search. We kept five and left out these: - **Two more teacher stamp sets**, the runners-up in our useful gifts search. They are near-identical eight-piece sets, so one pick covers them. - **A crochet sunflower doll with an encouraging message**, a runner-up in our main search. It is desk decor, and decor was on teachers' "worst" list. - **A crochet turtle holding a thank-you card**, a runner-up in our Christmas search. It is another decorative token, for the same reason. ## Questions people ask ### What do teachers actually want as a gift?
