It won our main search: a solar-powered feeder with a 2K HD live-stream camera, AI bird species identification, arrival alerts and a 2 liter seed hopper. - **A feeder and bird bath in one:** Smart Solar Bird Feeder with Camera and Bird Bath. It won our bird feeder camera without subscription search: a solar feeder with a dual-lens 2K HD camera, AI bird identification, phone alerts and a bird bath. - **Easy refilling:** HEAPETS Smart Bird Feeder with Camera, Solar. It won our solar bird feeder with camera search: a weatherproof solar feeder with a 2K HD camera, AI species identification, a 360 degree adjustable perch and an easy-refill top. Our top pick for most yards is the **[HARYMOR Smart Bird Feeder with Camera](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-bird-feeder-cameras/#pick-1)**. It won the main TwelveTabs search we ran for this guide, "best bird feeder camera", out of 61 Amazon listings. It is a solar-powered feeder with a 2K HD live-stream camera, AI that names the bird species, arrival alerts on your phone and a 2 liter seed hopper, and it suits anyone who wants to see and learn which birds visit. For a feeder and a bird bath in one, the **[Smart Solar Bird Feeder with Camera and Bird Bath](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-bird-feeder-cameras/#pick-2)** won our search for a bird feeder camera without a subscription. And if refilling is the chore you dread, the **[HEAPETS Smart Bird Feeder](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-bird-feeder-cameras/#pick-3)** won our solar feeder search with an easy-refill top. Our three searches kept returning the same three feeders as their top three, and each won one search. That is why this guide has three picks. Want a closer look at the visitors? See our [binoculars guide](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-binoculars/). ## How to choose a bird feeder camera A bird feeder camera is a feeder with a small camera built in. It records or streams the birds that land, and an app shows you the clips. Five things matter. - **Picture quality.** Kiwibit, which makes smart feeders, says to look for at least 1080p HD. All three of our picks list 2K HD video. - **Power.** Kiwibit says a solar panel keeps the camera charged longer, so you take it down less often. All three of our picks are solar-powered, per their listings. - **Wi-Fi reach.** Kiwibit notes that a strong Wi-Fi connection is what makes live streaming and alerts reliable. Hang the feeder where your home Wi-Fi still has signal (our inference: these listings name Wi-Fi alerts and streaming). - **Species ID and subscriptions.** All three picks list AI bird identification. Some smart feeders charge a monthly fee for features like this. None of the listings we read spells out its app terms, so check the app's page before you buy. - **Filling and cleaning.** Kiwibit also puts easy cleaning and refilling on its list. A bigger hopper means fewer refills; a top that opens easily makes the job quicker. ## Our picks in detail ### 1. HARYMOR Smart Bird Feeder with Camera: best overall **Why it made the list** - It won our main search, "best bird feeder camera", from 61 listings, and was a runner-up in our other two searches. - Its listing describes a solar-powered feeder with a 2K HD camera that streams live and identifies bird species with AI. - It sends instant alerts when birds arrive. - It holds 2 liters of seed, the most of our picks, and our solar search noted its dual solar panels. **Drawbacks** - Its listing does not say whether species ID or cloud storage needs a paid plan. - The listing carries no brand you may know; the seller is Gooding Store. **Skip it if** you want a feeder from a brand with a long track record. ### 2. Smart Solar Bird Feeder with Camera and Bird Bath: best feeder and bird bath in one **Why it made the list** - It won our search for "bird feeder camera without subscription", from 77 listings. - Its listing describes a dual-lens 2K HD camera, solar power, AI bird identification and phone alerts. - It adds a bird bath to the feeder. **Drawbacks** - It won the no-subscription search, but the reasons our search gave were its camera and alerts, and the listing does not state app terms. Check them before you buy. - The listing carries no brand name; the seller is NAVFS Store. **Skip it if** you want the biggest seed capacity. ### 3. HEAPETS Smart Bird Feeder with Camera: best for easy refilling **Why it made the list** - It won our search for "solar bird feeder with camera", from 66 listings. - Its listing describes a weatherproof solar feeder with a built-in 2K HD camera and AI species identification. - It has an easy-refill top and a perch that adjusts through 360 degrees. **Drawbacks** - It holds less seed than the HARYMOR, per our main search. - Its listing does not state app or subscription terms either. **Watch for this:** all three picks list 2K HD video, solar power and AI bird identification, from three different sellers. The differences are in the seed hopper, the bird bath and the refill top, so compare those. **Skip it if** you want to refill as rarely as possible. ## What we left out, and why Our three searches returned 204 listings. TwelveTabs shortlisted 30 of them, read the listing pages of 9 finalists, and named a winner and runners-up in each search. The same three feeders took the top three places in every search, and each won one, so we kept all three and left out none of the finalists. Wirecutter's top pick for a smart bird feeder, the Birdbuddy Pro, is in the comparison table so you can see it next to ours. Wirecutter recommends it for its imagery and its in-app community. It did not come up as a finalist in any of our three searches. ## Questions people ask ### What is the best bird feeder camera? The [HARYMOR Smart Bird Feeder with Camera](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-bird-feeder-cameras/#pick-1) won our main search. It has a 2K HD camera, AI species ID and the largest seed hopper of our picks. Wirecutter's top pick, the Birdbuddy Pro, is in the table too. ### Do bird feeder cameras need a subscription? Some smart feeders charge for extra features. None of the three listings we read states its app terms, so check the maker's app page before you buy. ### Do solar bird feeder cameras work in the shade? Less well. Kiwibit says a solar panel keeps the camera charged longer, which depends on sun. Hang it where the panel gets light during the day (our inference). ### How far from the house can a bird feeder camera go? As far as your Wi-Fi reaches. Kiwibit notes a stable Wi-Fi connection keeps streaming and alerts working, so test the signal at the spot first. Watching a trail or a field rather than a feeder? See our [trail cameras guide](https://twelvetabs.com/reviews/best-trail-cameras/). ### How did TwelveTabs choose these bird feeder cameras?
